Mental Health Training

Published February 13, 2023

Date: Wednesday, February 8th, 2023

Duration: Approx. 4 hours

Location: International Service Center (Market Square Church) – Fellowship Hall
21 South River Street
Harrisburg, PA 17101

Speaker: Rev. Susan Moore (Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute)

In this modern, post-pandemic age, mental health is a popular topic discussed in various settings, such as schools, workplaces, and the community. However, the matter is still observably taboo for immigrants from different cultures that ISC works with.

For the last two years, we have been resettling Humanitarian paroles from Afghanistan. Last year, we also started assisting Ukrainian paroles. Survivors of wars are known to be at higher risk of experiencing adjustment anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and more. We hoped to address and destigmatize those mental health issues. We hoped to equip our community members with knowledge to identify signs and provide a healthy and supportive environment for those around them who need help.

The training was attended by 31 people consisting of Afghan and Ukrainian community members, ISC staff, and interpreters.

We thank Rev. Moore for her excellent presentation and time.
