The International Service Center (ISC) hosted an in-person Community Orientation featuring representatives from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR). The event was coordinated and facilitated by Rakia Rasoli, Caseworker at ISC. Rakia Rasoli and Zahra Sulatani, Employment Specialist at ISC, participated in the program by introducing the presenters, reading their biographies, and presenting Certificates of Appreciation at the conclusion of the event.
Mr. Patrick Kane and Mr. Matthew Pensinger provided an overview of OVR services and eligibility requirements for individuals with disabilities seeking employment. The presentation covered vocational counseling, career planning, job readiness training, educational and vocational training opportunities, assistive technology, transportation assistance, home and vehicle modifications, transition services for youth, and employer support programs.
The presenters also shared success stories demonstrating how OVR helps individuals overcome barriers to employment and achieve greater independence. In addition, they discussed services available to employers, including workplace accommodations, disability awareness training, wage reimbursement programs, and accessibility support.
A question-and-answer session followed the presentation, during which participants asked about eligibility requirements, enrollment timelines, transportation assistance, benefits counseling, services for individuals with work-related injuries, and support for individuals with limited English proficiency.
The orientation was informative and well received by attendees. Participants gained valuable knowledge about OVR resources and services, strengthening ISC’s ability to connect clients with employment and vocational support opportunities. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to both speakers in recognition of their contributions and partnership with ISC.
